Lorraine Onorato's Profile

I qualified as a Beauty Therapist in 1995 gaining experience in the industry before running my own business.
From 2003 I began to teach ITEC Diploma Courses at North East Surrey College of Technology and during that time I have achieved the Certificate in Education and further industry qualifications. I write examination questions for CIBTAC and more recently have been asked to become a Technical Officer for Threading at the Asian Style Awards (asianstyleawards.org.uk) assisting the regulation of South Asian treatments and training as well as judging at their awards. I will soon be writing a regular feature in their trade journal.

I had my eyebrows Threaded many years ago at an exhibition in London and was very impressed with the result but I became aware that there was a need for trained 'Threaders' and Accredited Threading Courses available as it was so new to the UK.

The Threading Course was established in 2006 and is Approved by the CThA (Complementary Therapists Association), BABTAC and GPBT (Guild of Beauty Therapists) for Continuing Professional Development and carries 10 CPD Credits.
The course is very professional and informative covering all related theory, three practical techniques and assessments of both at the end of the day. There is also the opportunity to discuss marketing and advertising methods and networking with other therapists on the training which past students have found useful. Students leave at the end of the day feeling well informed and having the confidence to practice their new skill safely.

I am listed on the websites for Approved Course Providers for all three associations so please take a look. (www.complementary.assoc.org.uk

Threading

What is Threading?
Threading is a form of temporary hair removal, an ancient manual technique similar to plucking. It involves the use of a loop of twisted cotton thread which is passed across the skin to trap the hairs and so 'pluck' them from their follicles.

Where did it originate?
Threading has been used for many centuries. Is origin is a little ambiguous but it is believed that it was first used in Arabia, Turkey and India.

What are the benefits of Threading?
Threading is a simple, cheap and an efficient way of removing unwanted hair with minimal pain and skin irritation. The results are neat with approximate regrowth between 2-4 weeks. Very short hair can be removed and there is little irritation to the area making it possible to go over the area more than once. Hair can be removed individually or in 'lines' to create a perfect shape and can be removed from both above and below giving the threaded eyebrow its characteristic groomed appearance. Threading is also good for individuals that have undergone strong acne treatments e.g. roaccutane , retin A.

What type of Thread is used for Threading ?
A 100% anti-bacterial cotton thread imported from India is used for Threading . This thread allows strength but resilience during the technique whilst reducing the risk of infection.

What areas can be 'Threaded'?
Threading is mainly performed on the face e.g.
Eyebrows, upper lip, chin, sides of face, nose, ears, neck and forehead but can be used all over the body
